Nigthmaredifficulty in Alan Wake is very challenging even if you've played it multiple times. Dodging is something you ideally don't want to use (because you're not dealing any damage while dodging) but you have to know how to use it well. The darkness shields take very long to take down, enemies are very tough. Youcan't just blow through ammo, but you generally should have plenty as long as you use lights properly. I personally believe the Alan Wake references are worth playing Alan Wake first for. If you decide to play Control first, don’t bother playing the AWE DLC until you’ve gone back to Alan Wake.
